CARL SMITH, 95, of Fort Wayne, died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2011, at Parkview Hospital. He was a World War II Army veteran. He retired in 1977 from International Harvester after 33 years of service. He was a member of Praise Lutheran Church; graduate of South Side High School in 1934; graduate of Purdue University in 1942; was a Docent at the Botanical Conservatory; master gardner; and past president of Fort Wayne Garden Club. Surviving are his wife, Mildred M.; daughters, Marilyn M. Cocklin of Fort Wayne and Barbara J. (Bill) Niemeyer of Brentwood, Calif.; grandchildren, Rick (Teri) Cocklin, Michael (Ann) Cocklin, William (Michelle) Niemeyer, and Kenneth Niemeyer; and great-grandchildren, Nicole, Laura and Rylee Cocklin, and Aiden Niemeyer. He was preceded in death by a grandson, David C. Cocklin; and brother, Dr. Brooks Smith. Funeral service is 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 18, 2011, at Praise Lutheran Church, 1115 W. Dupont Road, with calling one hour prior. The Rev. J. Brown and the Rev. Paul Dancy officiating. Calling also from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 17, 2011, at the church. Burial in Highland Park Cemetery. Preferred memorials to Praise Lutheran Church, Botanical Conservatory, or Audiences Unlimited.
