Calvin Carl Rose, 96, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2021 at Hospice of Butler and Warren Counties, Middletown Ohio. Born August 12, 1924 in Fort Wayne, he was the son of the late Carl and Gertrude (Kruckeberg) Rose. He graduated from South Side High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration at Northwestern University in 1946. He joined his father in business at the Carl Rose Jewelry Store in downtown Fort Wayne upon graduation and married Carol Havens in 1951 at Trinity English Lutheran Church. He succeeded as owner of the Carl Rose Jewelry Store, and upon retirement he began work in Real Estate and volunteering at Parkview Hospital. In 2013 he received the President’s Call To Service Award and continued to volunteer until he was 95 years old. Over the years, Calvin loved watching sports, particularly the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs seeing them beat the Cleveland Indians in a thrilling seventh game of the World Series in 2016. He also enjoyed attending the Cincinnati Reds, Tin Caps and Comets games, horse racing and jai alai over the years. He loved playing bridge and poker and spent the cold winter months in Las Vegas for several years. Calvin joined Messiah Lutheran Church in later years.
Calvin is survived by three daughters, Diane (Gregory) Perriguey, Karen (Ray) Smith, and Linda Rose; six grandchildren, Darcy Mamutse, Jennifer Bonney, Amanda (Brent) Moore, Christy (Jose Luis) Sanchez, Laura Zlatos, Jeff Zlatos; 9 great-grandchildren, Kayla, Tizirai, Gavin, Avery, Grayson, Griffen, Dariel, Levi and Eliana; and his best friend, Oscar, a 10 year old Boxer/Hound mix. Calvin was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Carol Jean Rose.
A private family funeral service will be held at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial in Lindenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Hospice of Butler & Warren Counties. Arrangements by D.O.
