BILLIE JEAN KING, 85, of Fort Wayne, died on Friday, June 3, 2011, 1:18 p.m., at Renaissance Village with the assistance of Southern Care Hospice. Born Oct. 13, 1925, in Auburn, she was a daughter of the late Wilbur E. Walter and Jennie E. (Sherwood) Walter. She was a member of International Home Exchange; Past President of Allen County Cancer Society; and a member of the Eastern Star. In South Carolina, she was a member of Guardian Ad Litem; was a Victims Witness Advocate; a Board member of Habitat for Humanity; and attended Parish Church of St. Helena (Episcopal). Surviving are two daughters, Linda (Stephen) Sims and Letha Mason Chambers, both of Fort Wayne; two sons, Laune (Deborah) Mason of Fort Wayne and Larry Mason of Yulee, Fla.; a sister, Sue Ash of Fort Wayne; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; and 12 nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Robert Walter and Joseph Walter; sister, Patricia Diehl; and former husband, Gilbert R. Meyers.
