Betty L. Nuttle, 85, of Portage, peacefully departed this life on Saturday, May 30th, at the Life Care Center in Valparaiso. She was the daughter of the late Harry and Vesta (Caldwell) Ewigleben of Ft. Wayne. Born May 1, 1930, she was born and raised in Ft. Wayne, and worked at Indiana Bell as an operator for 10 years. She was also employed by King-Seeley in Kendallville so that her children had the opportunity to go to college that she never had, and their gratitude was exceeded only by her pride in seeing them graduate. She retired in 1993. She was Brownie and Girl Scout Troop leader, a Cub Scout Den Mother, a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church, a member of the General Society of Mayflower Descendants, ACGSI, the World Wildlife Fund, was an avid Colts fan, historian, genealogist, gardener, bird watcher, and loved working, and completing, crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. She is survived by James, her husband of 56 years; her children, Kathleen (Michael) Catania of Chesterton, Daniel (Heidi) Nuttle of West Dundee, IL, Sandra (Jimmy) Goldsberry of Newtown, CT and David (Laurie) Nuttle of Westerville, OH; six grandchildren, Angelo (Quyen), Jeffrey and Steven Catania, Samantha and Margaret Goldsberry, and Alexander Nuttle; her sister Jean (Ewigleben) Hively; and was anxiously awaiting the arrival of her first great-grandchild, Kyleigh Nuttle, in August. She was also preceded in death by her sister Dorothy (Ewigleben) Kolkman and nephew Kyle Kolkman. Funeral service will be at Greenlawn Funeral Home, 6750 Covington Road, Fort Wayne, IN 46804 at 1pm on Sunday, June 7, 2015 with calling one hour prior. Visitationwill also be from 4-6pm on Saturday, June 6, 2015 at Greenlawn Funeral Home. Preferred memorials are to the Wounded Warrior, Special Olympics or Habitat for Humanity.
