Bernard “Barney” Baker, 91, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Bethlehem Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born September 11, 1924 in Lima, Ohio, he was a son of the late Charles and Leila Mae (Appleman) Baker. Barney proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1947 and was a member of the American Legion Post 82. He was a Home Improvement Contractor with Bernard Baker Home Improvement for 46 years from which he retired in 1995. Barney enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Jeanne (Dan Weisenauer) Cashdollar and Roland Baker, both of Fort Wayne; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie, Eugene, Wilbur, and Richard Baker; and sisters, Rhea Wilt, Thelma Elwood, and infant sister, Myra Baker. Memorial Service will be Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 11:00am at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Inurnment at a later date at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Shepherd’s House.
