Allison Kathleen Wheaton, age 43, of Angola, Indiana, died tragically on Sunday, November 26, 2023, in a sudden and heartbreaking small aircraft crash in Ludington, Michigan. She was accompanied by her beloved husband, Randy, and their cherished dogs, Bernadette and Jack.
Born in November of 1980 in Illinois, Allison grew up along the eastern seaboard, spending the majority of her childhood in the foothills of western North Carolina. She fell in love with the equestrian and aviation communities early, acquiring her pilot's license before her driver's license and trading work for riding lessons with nearby neighbors before her 10th birthday. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Allison pursued her passion of aviation fully, taking her to iconic seaplane locations, such as Jack Brown's Seaplane Base in Florida, Kenmore Air in Seattle, and Kodiak Alaska as a bush pilot.
In 2006, Allison met Randy Strebig of Fort Wayne, and kicked off an 18-year love story bringing her to Angola, Indiana, where she put down roots. Soon after landing in Angola, Allison rediscovered the power horses have to help people, leading her to what became her life’s work: Equine Assisted Therapy. Allison founded Summit Equestrian Center in 2010, which aimed to enable people of ALL ages and backgrounds to discover the best version of themselves through interaction with horses.
Along the way, Allison’s easy-going demeanor and infectious energy made all who encountered her feel safe and supported, leaving behind a large legacy of friends and family who are better for having known her. She is survived by parents Kathy Wheaton, Jim Wheaton and Linda Benyo, sister, Kate (Kevin) Thomson, brother, Tyler (Becca) Wheaton, loving nieces and nephews, and ALL of Allison and Randy’s very dear friends.
