Alice A. (Gosnell) Bates

ALICE ANN (GOSNELL) BATES, 74, passed away in the early morning of Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021, at Georgetown Place of Fort Wayne from Alz heimer's disease. Born Nov. 27, 1947, in Detroit, Mich., she was the eldest of three sisters. Alice graduated high school in Northville, Mich., in 1966. She met her future husband Theodore "Ted" Bates in Detroit in early 1968 and they were married in October of that year just prior to Ted's induction into the Army. In 1969, Ted was transferred, and along with Alice, moved to Wurzburg, Germany. Their eldest daughter Jane was born in Germany in 1970 and the family moved back to Detroit to join Alice's parents. They moved to Fort Wayne in 1975 and have remained since. Ted and Alice have three grown daughters, Jane Chronister, Donna Walker and Sarah Pack. Alice and her family were longtime members of Queen of Angels Catholic Church. She was a loving mother and a beloved wife of 53 years. She loved gardening, spending time with family, reading, knitting and watching mysteries, and had a love of cats and dogs. She was a dedicated employee of JCPenney - Glenbrook for 34 years. She made many, many friends there and had fond memories of her JCPenney years. Alice leaves behind her husband, Ted of Fort Wayne; daughters, Jane (Gary) Chronister of Decatur, Donna (Scott) Walker of Fort Worth, Texas, and Sarah (Derik) Pack of Goose Creek, S.C.; grandchildren, Andrea (Barrett) Busick of Decatur, Ind., Jason Chronister of Decatur, Adeline Pack and Zayne Pack, both of Goose Creek, S.C.; sister, Joan (Malcolm) Petteys; nieces and nephews, Amy (Clayton Joyner) Meadors and Timothy (Christine) Petteys. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, James and Dolores Gosnell; and youngest sister, Nancy. Memorial services will be held in April of 2022. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alzheimer's Association, St. Jude Children's Hospital or Humane Fort Wayne (Animal Society).
