Alberta “Jean” Ridgley, 89, of Fort Wayne, passed away on Tuesday, October 11, 2016 at Ashton Creek Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born August 31, 1927 in Hamden, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Thomas Shoemaker and Bessie (Smith) Shoemaker Wilkerson. Jean was a wonderful homemaker and a member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene for the past 23 years. A strong and independent woman, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, and reading. She is survived by her daughter, Martini (Walter) Vandagriff of Churubusco; three grandchildren, Michael Vandagriff of London, Ohio, Tara (Randall) Bower of Columbia City, and Matthew Vandagriff of Churubusco; seven great-grandchildren; brother, Richard (Cathy) Shoemaker of Fargo, ND; and sister-in-law, Diane Shoemaker of Waverly, Ohio. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Ridgley; three sisters, Joy Littlejohn, Patti Fraley, and Mona Ruth Bellemy; two brothers, Jim and Jack Shoemaker; and one great-granddaughter, Natalie Bower. Funeral Service will be 11:00am on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Trinity Church of the Nazarene, 4150 Stellhorn Rd., Fort Wayne, with calling one hour prior. Calling will also be 2-4pm & 6-8pm on Sunday, October 16, 2016 at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Rd., Fort Wayne. Burial will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park, Fort Wayne. Memorials may be made to Trinity Church of the Nazarene or Heartland Home Health and Hospice.
