William Lee Vick, Sr. of Fort Smith went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2015 in Fort Smith, at the age of 95. William was born January 22, 1920 in Talihina, OK to William Issac Vick and Bertha Rodgers Vick. He was retired from the United States Postal Service, served in U.S. Army during World War II serving in two campaigns – Rhineland and Central European Campaigns – received two bronze medals and a good conduct medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbons, five overseas Service Bars. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church where he was a member of the Methodist Men's Prayer Breakfast group. Prior to joining Faith, he had been a member of Midland Heights United Methodist Church for 78 years, where he served in many positions including chairman of the Administrative Board, member of the Board of Trustees, usher, and UMY counselor.
He is survived by a daughter, Sharon Vaughn of Fort Smith; three sons, William L. Vick, Jr and Jackie Reed of Oak Creek, Wisconsin; Bruce and Brenda Vick of Fort Smith; and Brian and Betty Vick of Van Buren. Seven Grandchildren:Tammy and Don Gunther; Kristi White; Chris and Brandi Vick; Angela and Michael Johnson; Todd and Carrie Vick; Brandon Vick and Shana Nokham; Matthew and Christina Vick. Eleven great grandchildren, Kelly Gunther, Emily Gunther, Sidney Gunther, Toby Calvert-Lee, Arabella Calvert-Lee, Michaela Calvert-Lee, Cole Vick, Allison Sandlin, Chandler Johnson, Eli Vick and Riley Vick. One sister in law, Pat Echols. Four nephews: Dan Brambl and wife Becky; United States Senator John Boozman and wife Cathy; Jim Echols and wife Susan; Bob Echols and wife Becky; two nieces; Debbie Malone and husband Michael; Vickey Boozman; fourteen great nieces and nephews and eighteen great great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 70 years, Jayne Louise Boozman Vick; sister, Pansy Vick; sister, Etta Brambl and brother-in-law Pete; sister, Mildred Sleeper and brother-in-law Earl; brother-in-law, Fay W. Boozman, Jr and wife Marie; brother-in-law Olen Echols; nephews; William Sleeper, Fay W. Boozman, III; son-in-law, Marius Vaughn and grandson, Erick Schmidling.
His family would like to thank the staff at Methodist Health and Rehab for their loving care of William over the past two years. Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday, April 6th, 2015 at Faith United Methodist Church, officiated by the Reverend Dr. Charles Armour, Reverend Herschel Mc Clurkin, and Reverend Matt Daniels with burial to follow at the U. S. National Cemetery with military honors, all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Chris Vick, Todd Vick, Matthew Vick, Mike Johnson, Danny Brambl, Bradford Moore, and Ed Nagy. Honorary pallbearer will be Brandon Vick.
