Growing up, Susie was a member of Mallieu United Methodist Church. She attended grade schools in Fort Smith, and after high school, went to Philander Smith College in Little Rock, AR, where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree. She later relocated to Chicago, where she met and married the late Clifford Shinault Sr. and moved residence to Yonkers, New York. She worked many years in bookkeeping and accounting for the Gestetner Corporation. She was an active member of Institutional AME Zion Church in Yonkers, where was a member of various boards and church activities.
After retiring from Gestetner, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia where she served in the Senior Group at St. Philip AME Church for more than 25 years and was a member of the Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Susie was passionate about her love for crocheting and knitting, and will be remembered for her famous dishcloths that she handcrafted and so generously gave to everyone.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Shinault and his wife, Karen of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; grandson, Ronald Shinault, Jr. and his wife, Jessica; and great-grand daughter, Malia of San Carlos, California; granddaughter, Ashley Hannon and her husband, Craig; and great-grand daughter, Olivia of Sacramento, California; sisters, Thelma Henderson of Gary, Indiana and Lela Sweet of Tacoma, Washington. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and her sisters, Thee Juana Cullers, Katherine Wilson and Bennie White; and her brother, JW Howard.
The family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Friday July 20, 2018 at Edwards Funeral Home. The graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 21, 2018 at Roselawn Cemetery. Services and arrangements are under direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
