Virginia Sue Reed, age 73, of Fort Smith, passed from this life January 13, 2021 in Fort Smith. She was born March 30, 1947, in Fort Smith, to Ted and Gladys McCrite Boyd. Sue retired from Sebastian County, after 37 years of service, as Comptroller.
Sue is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, Larry; two children, Rhonda and her husband Jay White of Van Buren and Lt. Colonel (Ret.) Robert Reed and his wife Lisa of Alabama; eight grandchildren, Ryan Lynch, Lauren and her husband Adam Reames, Sarah Patton, A.J., Abigail and Anna Grace Reed, Brittany White and Melissa and her husband Johnathan Ledet; two great grandsons Chase and Hunter, with a great granddaughter to join us in March; two sisters, Jean Jones of Fort Smith and Shirley Avey of Mulberry, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters Pat Lasiter and Melba Rogers, and three brothers Don Boyd, Bill Boyd and Teddy Boyd.
She was a member of Cavanaugh United Methodist Church and most recently attended Community Bible Church of Fort Smith.
Sue participated in many hobbies over the years and she and Larry played golf as often as possible. She also enjoyed fishing, cooking, and spending time with her family and friends.
Sue adored her family and especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed attending school functions, sporting events, and performances in which her grandchildren were participating. Her grandchildren will remember all the overnight stays and Maw-Maw baking her famous chocolate chip cookies that were the best around. She is also known for her chocolate gravy on weekend mornings, her incredible cheesecake, coconut pie, chocolate pie, lemon cake and the best turkey and dressing.
Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, January 20, 2021 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 12:00pm to 7:00pm Tuesday, January 19, 2021 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel, with the family present from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Ryan Lynch, A.J. Reed, Adam Reames, Cliff Boyd, Stuart Boyd and Eddie Knight.
