Ronnie Joe Lawson, 70, of Pocola, Oklahoma, passed from this life February 20, 2018 in Pocola. He was born November 12, 1947, in Fort Smith, to Sammy and Agnes Coward Lawson. Ronnie was a veteran of the United States Army, having obtained the rank of Sargent. He was stationed at Sandia Base, New Mexico where he was Military Police. Ronnie’s belief in the United States flag never wavered. Ronnie was blessed with the ability to build anything, fix everything and cook any dish, his specialty being Potato Candy. He loved to fish and be outdoors in his garden, mastering tomatoes, or at Baum Stadium cheering on Razorback baseball. Ronnie was a devout Christian, truly loving the Lord.
Ronnie is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna; his daughter Terrie Grigsby and husband Jeff of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; his son Rick Lawson and wife Faith of Fort Smith; grandchildren, Samantha and Jacob Grigsby and Katharine, Hannah and Khristian Lawson; great grandchildren, Kenlee and Charles Conley, as well as his sister-in-law, Evelyn Hudson and her husband Eddy.
Graveside services will be 1:00pm Monday, February 26, 2018 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, with U.S. Army Honors. The family will greet friends from 2:00 to 4:00pm Sunday, February 25, 2018 at Edwards Funeral Home. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, memorials can be made in Ronnie’s name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607.
