Mavin L. Hathaway, 79, of Lavaca, passed away June 15 at his home. He was born November 26, 2013 in Danville, IL. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and was a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He had 40 years with the U.S. Postal Service, the last 25 years as Postmaster at Lavaca. He retired December 29, 2000. Mavin was a 48 year member of the American Legion. He served as Post Commander, past Judge Advocate, District 13 Commander and on the state level as Northwest Vice Commander. He was a member of First Baptist Church Lavaca. He is survived by his wife Melba; a step son Donny Coyle and his wife Sharon; three step grandchildren, Josh Clemmer and his wife Abby, Amanda Moore and her husband Michael and Kelly Dyer, as well as three great grandchildren. Funeral services will be 2:00PM, Wednesday, June 19 at First Baptist Church Lavaca with Rev. Grady Rice officiating. Burial will follow at Lavaca City Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00PM, Tuesday, June 18 at Edwards Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Ellie Boydston, Josh Clemmer, Michael Moore, Dale and Larry Montgomery and Steve Turner.
