Mary received her nursing degree from Tacoma University in Washington. She met the love of her life, Dr. Robert J. Thompson (a.k.a. Dr. Bob/Bob) in a hospital in Spokane, where he was a resident taking care of her mother. They married in 1946 and enjoyed a happy, adventurous life for 56 years, until his death.
Mary lived a full and productive life and her love for others was unlimited. She was a longtime member and officer in Hardscrabble Women’s Golf Association. She was a member of PEO Chapter BD for over 70 years. Mary’s faith was one of the cornerstones of her life: she attended services faithfully, was a member of the Gleaners Sunday School class, the Ruth Circle and numerous Bible Studies.
She rounded out her long and busy life at Brookfield Assisted Living, where she enjoyed the fellowship and activities daily.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father; her husband, Dr. Bob; and her sister, Barbara Wolfe.
She is survived by her two daughters, Diane Manering and Barbara Karber. She is also survived by and blessed with her five grandchildren, Lauren, Ryan, Stan, Kelsey and John; seven great grandchildren whom she loved dearly, Rami, Kayli, Robbie, Bryson, Sam, Adalynn and Malloy; and her dear nephew, J.C. Cook.
The family would like to thank the entire staff of Brookfield, Heart of Hospice and Mercy Hospice, and a special thank you to Dr. Cole Goodman, a long-time family friend for his guidance.
