Mary Ellen (Framel) Self, 79 passed peacefully from this life to be with her Lord on November 19, 2022 with her three daughters by her side. She was a resident of Bentonville, AR, where she lived for the last two and half years. Mary Ellen was born October 6, 1943 in Fort Smith, AR to Leo and Amelia Framel and had five siblings. She lived the majority of her life in Fort Smith, AR and her family were members of the St. Boniface Catholic Church where she attended elementary school. She graduated high school from St. Ann’s Academy where she was voted “cutest” in her high school yearbook.
After high school, Mary Ellen took classes to further her business skills before marrying her high school sweetheart. Mary Ellen quickly fulfilled her desire for children and devoted her life to her three daughters. Mary Ellen was passionate about her Catholic faith and became a member of the Immaculate Conception Parish in Fort Smith, AR where she volunteered often at the school and for various fundraising events. Later in life, Mary Ellen worked for her dear friend at Burns Carousel of Flowers for over twenty years. She had a very special bond with all of her customers. She took pride in making all of her repeat customers feel special and loved. Mary Ellen also had a heart for caregiving and spent a portion of her adult life caring for her aging father and ultimately her sister.
Mary Ellen was very kind and soft-spoken. She was always complimenting others. She was very giving. Every time she saw her grandchildren she brought them little gifts. In her free time, Mary Ellen enjoyed spending time with her family and especially time with her grandchildren who she was so proud of. Daily she would say how God had blessed her so much in giving her the most wonderful grandchildren, each one unique and special in their own way.
When Mary Ellen splurged on herself, she could be found having fun playing slot machines at the casino and sipping her red wine.
Mary Ellen is survived by her three daughters; Julie Hagen and husband John of Fort Smith, AR, Jennifer Hall and husband Blake of Bentonville, AR, Jill Self-Pike and husband T.J. also of Bentonville AR, her grandchildren Connor Hagen, Madison Hagen, Lydia Hagen, Lucas Hall, John Samuel Pike, Lily Pike, and Gabriel Pike, siblings John Framel, James Framel and many extended family member’s that will miss her dearly. She is preceded in death by her parents Leo & Amelia Framel and her siblings Leo Framel, William Framel and Carolyn Timmermeyer.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 29, 2022 from 5-6:30 PM with rosary at 6:30 PM at Edward’s funeral home, Fort Smith. Funeral service will be held at St. Boniface Catholic church on Wednesday, November 30, 2022 at 11:00 AM with burial at Holy Cross cemetery.
