Lenora Clara Scoggins

She was a military wife for many years. They spent a few years in Germany where she learned German phrases that we heard even until her last moments. “Das ist genug”, “See you später”, and “Danke”, was even spoken in her last days in the nursing home. She also served alongside dad in Set Free Prison Ministry for 30 years. She continued doing this ministry on her own when he was unable. They sent bible courses to thousands of Arkansas prisoners and shared the love of Christ with them faithfully.

She was mother to 6 nurturing, neck-breaking, peacemaking, trouble-making, mischief making, loving kids, creating an abundance of chaos!

Mom displayed her love with hundreds of hand stitched quilts ready to give to family, friends, and any unsuspecting person that crossed her path. However, this love was rivaled by her love for crosswords, chapstick, Norman Rockwell, and garage sales where she often uttered the word “Das ist zu fiel” (“That is too much!”). Her love for music also inspired many, many hours of piano playing and hymn singing with the family and at church.

For over 30 years, she volunteered at the nursing home daily, loving the residents, playing the piano, leading hymns, and most importantly asking them “Do you know the Lord?”

Mom’s love for Jesus made her a passionate prayer warrior for everyone in her life. Even in her last days, her greatest concern was the salvation of others. “Do you know the Lord?” is the question she would have for anyone reading this. She would want you to know that Jesus died for you and your sins and to know that your sin has been paid for if you trust in Jesus Christ as your Savior. She would especially want you to know that Jesus loves you.

She is survived by three daughters, Susan Hontz and her husband Jeff, Beth Tidwell and her husband CDR Christopher Tidwell, and Becky Larkin; Three sons Paul, Phillip and his wife, Amy, and Nathan Scoggins. She was also loved by 18 grandchildren and one great grandchild on the way.

Family will greet friends from 4-6 p.m. on Sunday, December 3rd at Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.

The celebration of her “going to glory” will be on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 9:00 a.m. at Central Christian Church with the burial to follow at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith where she will be laid next to her faithful husband.
