Juan G. Martinez

MSG Juan G. Martinez (Ret.), 54, of Fort Smith, passed from this life January 24, 2015, in Fort Smith. He was born January 23, 1961, in Monterrey, Mexico. Juan retired as a Master Sergeant with the United States Army, with over twenty years of service. He held a Master’s Degree from Arkansas Tech University and was a Spanish teacher at Northside High School. He is survived by his wife, Marina Verano-Martinez; his three daughters, Elizabeth A. Martinez of Dora, Oklahoma, Bobbi G. Martinez and Valentina Martinez, both of Fort Smith; one son, Juan Felipe Martinez of Fort Smith; his parents Isidro and Genoveva Martinez of Fort Smith; four sisters, Rosa I. Brown, Narcedalia Martinez, Petra de la Rosa and Isidra M. Kaelin, all of Fort Smith, as well as his grandson Pierce. Juan also leaves 14 nieces and nephews and one grandnephew, as well other family and friends. Funeral services will be 12:30pm Monday, February 2, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with burial to follow at Fort Smith National Cemetery with military honors. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00pm Saturday, January 31, 2015 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Rosary immediately following the visitation. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
