John Lelan Scott, 67, of Fort Smith, AR, passed away Friday, August 10, 2012, in Fort Smith. He was born July 2, 1945 in Dayton, OH to the late Albert T. and Ernestine A. Marlatt Scott. In February 2009 he met his current wife on Valentine’s Day in Fort Smith.
He ran Scott’s Welding Repair for 36 years. He was a volunteer and attended PTSD meetings at the VA Clinic for years.
He was a Navy Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was attached to the Marine Corps as a Navy Seabee 1966-67, in Sector I, Da Nang, Vietnam. He served 45 days in the Monkey Mountain Jungle maintaining water supply to the ships.
Memorial service will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 24, 2012, at Edwards Funeral Home, 201 North 12th Street in Fort Smith, AR with Rev. George Barham officiating. Burial of cremains will be at Fort Smith National Cemetery with Military Honors at 2:00 PM.
He is survived by his wife Pattye Peters-Scott, one son Olliver Peters of Stigler, OK, two sisters Vivian Cooper of Lawton, OK and Marcia J. Scott of Albuquerque, NM , 1 brother Dick Forehand of Washington, 5 grandchildren Devin Woods, Hunter Riddle, Courtney Tilghman, Tyler Tilghman and Wesley Tilghman, 1 niece Catherine Vardeman and 2 nephews David and Joe Cooper and several great grandchildren.
