John E. Miller, 38, of Barling, AR, passed away Friday, August 28, 2015. He was born December 8, 1976 in Fort Smith to the late James E. and Eva Mary Catherine (McNeely) Miller. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Fort Smith. He was an Army Veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom serving in Kuwait/Iraq. He was awarded the Army Lapel Button, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal (second Award), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal (second Award), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal W/M Device, NATO Medal, Expert Marksmanship Qualification Badge with Grenade Bar, Marksmanship, Qualification Badge with Rifle Bar and Driver and Mechanic Badge with Driver Bar.
Funeral service will be 12:30 PM Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at U.S. National Cemetery with Military Honors under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He is survived by his wife Tracy, daughter Mekel Miller of the home; stepchildren, Ryan Nichols, Kayla Cullen, Kierra Cullen and Tristin Cullen all of the home; two sisters, Rhonda Murphy and husband Willard of Fort Smith and Carrie Miller and husband Chuck Jones of Charleston; a brother, James Miller of Barling; sister-in-law, Tammy Platt of Muskogee, OK and three nephews, Nicholas Murphy, Hunter Murphy and Josh Jones.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Birchfield, Robert Reithknecht, Dale Roberts, Gary McDonald, Glenn Duboise and Shane Cooper. Honorary pallbearers will be Josh Murphy, Nick Murphy and Wendell Parker.
The family will visit with friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM at Edwards Funeral Home.
