John Carl Jones

John Carl Jones passed from this life on April 21, 2023. He was born on January 28, 1938 in Piney Community, Franklin County Arkansas to William and Sybil Jones. Carl’s father passed away when he was 11, which meant leaving school and finding work to help support his large family. Carl joined the Air Force at 17 and served his country for 10 years, which gave him a sense of life-long pride. After leaving the Air Force, Carl earned his Master's degree + additional hours, working his way up to become the chancellor of Arkansas Tech at Ozark, AR. He is preceded in death by his father and mother; brothers Bill Jones and Jim Jones; sisters Dovey Young, Eula Sumner, and Josie Lovett Nason; and son, Marcus Vaughn Jones. Carl is survived by sister Avanelle Carter of Nashville, TN; daughter Carla Featherston (Jim) of Springdale and children Isaac, Hannah, and Aaron; daughter Courtney Jones (Auggie) and son Teddy of Marietta, GA; son Robert Jones (Donna) of Fort Smith and children Allison, Grant, Evan, and Erica; and stepdaughter Nickole Mings-Shelton (Chris) of Alma and children Drake, Karsen, and Jaxen. He is also survived by his wife Anna Nguyen-Jones of Fort Smith and her children Christine Nessen (Anders) and daughter Stella; Kat Ward (Jason) and children Kalie, Abbie, Abby, and Zach; and Peter Nguyen (Marlene) and children Matthew and Olivia. Carl had a large, extended-blended family, all of whom he loved very much. The terms ‘step-’ and ‘half-’ did not exist in Carl's world of family.

The services will be held at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, AR at 10:00am, Friday April 28th. Interment will be at National Cemetery, Fort Smith immediately following. Visitation at Edwards funeral home will be Thursday April 27th from 5:00pm to 7:00pm.
