John was born September 14, 1934 in St. Louis, MO to William H. Curry and Katherine Light Curry.
One of eight children, he grew up in Springfield, MO and Fort Smith. He married the love of his life, Jean Gossett Curry, in Fort Smith at First United Methodist Church on June 25th, 1955.
John graduated from Fort Smith High School (’52) where he was President of his Kappa Alpha Phi fraternity; attended University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and graduated from Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX. He was a long time resident of Irving, TX and Fort Smith, AR.
He began his career in the transportation industry and was a successful entrepreneur owning businesses in Texas and Arkansas. Most recently he was founder of Ozark Nut and Nature Products, an agricultural commodity brokerage company based in Fort Smith.
John was a natural born leader active in both the Rotary Club and the Lions Club. He was a larger than life family man who loved to bowl, golf, and fish. Deeply curious, he was a life-long learner who enjoyed a good story.
Memorial service for family and close friends will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
He was loved and will be missed by those that survive him, his wife of 59 years Jean, daughter Carol Curry Hagar and husband, Randolph B. Hagar; sons Kenneth A. Curry and wife Lonnah, Dr. Keith R. Curry and wife Dr. Melissa Warren; three grandchildren, Madeleine Claire Hagar, JaNessa Curry, and MaLeeka Curry; brothers James Curry and wife Sally, Patrick Curry and wife Barbara; and sister, Mary Lazarus; numerous nieces and nephews; as well as his daily companion and beloved dog Ginger.
John was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Jane Crowder and Susan Warner; and two brothers, William and David.
