He was a retired Shelter Insurance agent of 38 years. Jerry was blessed to work side by side with his son, Wade, for 26 of those years. He will be remembered for how much he truly loved his clients. Prior to starting in insurance, he spent 14 years in his true life’s passion of teaching.
Outside of work, Jerry loved fishing, metal detecting, travel, and the 3 joys of his life, his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a son Justin Mitchell Gilkey.
He is survived by his wife Betty; son, Wade Gilkey and wife Kellie of Fort Smith; grandchildren Kaitlyn Gilkey, Avery Gilkey, and Connor Gilkey.
Other survivors include a brother Jimmy Gilkey of Havana; Sister in Laws and husbands: Judy and Jim Cannon of Murfreesboro and Shelly and Brian White of Searcy; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Friday, March 21st at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith, AR. A private burial will be performed at a later date in Danville, AR.
