Jack H Smith

Jack H. Smith, “Mr. Jack”, 86 of Fort Smith, died January 11, 2013 in Fort Smith. He was born August 26, 1926 in Massard to Emmitt U. and Lottie L. Shelton Smith. Jack retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1984 and then went on to work for the Fort Smith Public School System for many years. After retiring from the Fort Smith School district he went on to work for Immaculate Conception Catholic School and then the First National Bank. He was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Telephone Pioneers, UCT Club, and the Christ the King Holy Name Society. He was best known for his long time involvement with local Church League and American Legion Baseball Programs. He served as a coach, mentor, and pitching coach to many young men in the area for many many years, and he never meet a stranger. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ann; one son, John David Smith and wife Denise of Fort Smith; two daughters, Susan Fiori and husband Sam and Sara Vanhersh and her fiancé Sam Trisler all of Fort Smith; one sister, Ruth Emmons and husband John of Fort Smith; two grandsons, Jordan Smith and wife Rebecca and Sammy Fiori and wife Rachel; three granddaughters, Anna Fiori of Little Rock, AR., Caitlin Smith of Russellville, AR., and Emma Vanhersh of Fort Smith. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Harold, Guy, and Robert Smith. Rosary will be said on Monday, January 14, 2013 at 6:00 PM in the Chapel of Christ the King Catholic Church. Mass will be said on Tuesday, January 14, 2013 at 10:00 AM in Christ the King Catholic Church with burial of cremains following in the U.S. National Cemetery. Services and cremation are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Honorary pallbearers will be Sammy Fiori, Jordan Smith, Sam Trisler, John Emmons, and Fred Williams.
