Helen Irene Shepherd, age 90, departed this life and entered into eternal life on September 13, 2021. She was born April 25, 1931 in Fort Smith, Arkansas to the late Albert & Irene Harris. She married the love of her life, Benny Shepherd Sr, on June 5, 1949. From this union came 2 children Benny (Vera) Shepherd Jr. of Fort Smith, AR & Wanda (Calvin) Williams of Hot Springs, AR. Helen was a dedicated wife & mother. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. She loved her roll as Granny, Gran-Gran, & Aunt Helen.
She was saved and was baptized at the age of 25 at Church of the Living God C.W.F.F. She faithfully served alongside her husband and son until she wasn’t able to physically attend service. Helen held many different positions in the church including but not limited to Sunday School Secretary, Missionary, & Children’s Sunday School Teacher.
Helen was known for her contagious laugh, bright smile & sweet spirit. She worked inside the home raising her children, and taking care of others’ children. In her later years, she enjoyed spending time at St. John’s Senior Citizens Center & Baker Senior Citizens Center making new friends, calling bingo, playing cards, and board games.
Helen was proceeded in death by her husband, son, parents, 6 brothers (Albert Jr., Bob, Ernest, L.J, Nathan, Cornelius) & 5 sisters (Margaret, Maggie, Louise, Fredia, Pauline). She is survived by her daughter, daughter-in-law, 2 brothers Booker T. & W.A Harris of New Jersey, NJ, 4 grandchildren (Cassaundra, Benny III, Aloise, Robert), 5 great grandchildren (Anytria, Diamond, Dasia, Dominique, Dynasty), 7 great-great grandchildren (Aspen, Isaiah, Olivia, Harris, Novan, Tylee, & Alice), a host of nieces, nephews, extended family & friends.
She will be greatly missed by all those she loved and touched deeply.
The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Friday, September 24, 2021 at Edwards Funeral Home. Please join us celebrating her life Saturday morning September 25, 2021 at Washington Cemetery. Any floral arrangements can be sent to Edwards Funeral Home.
