Harold “Hal” “Eggs” “Papa” Holland, 78, of Fort Smith, went home to be with our Lord, January 11, 2012 in Fort Smith. He was born August 1, 1933 in Huntington, AR to Eab and Pearl Holland. He graduated from Mansfield High School and attended Carl Albert Junior College on the G.I. Bill. He served in the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Navy Seabees. He was a long time employee of Belle Point Beverage and retired from Zipp Delivery. He loved fishing, baseball, and fast pitch softball. He played on the top Air Force National Team in softball, and was signed by the San Diego Padres as a pitcher in baseball, but decided he did not want to raise a family on the road before spring training. He was a faithful Christian of the Church of Christ faith worshiping at North 50th Street Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Ramona of the home; daughter, Debbie and husband Stephen Biggers of Fort Smith; son, Stan (Rick) and wife Leitha Holland of Fort Smith; grandchildren, David, Michael, Jason, Misti, and Atsie all of Fort Smith and Stephanie of Ratcliff, KY; 20 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two nieces; and numerous cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Raymond and Billy Wayne Holland; two sisters, Mildred Lynch and Melba McCormick.
Funeral service will be Monday, January 16, 2012 at 10:00 AM in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in Dawson Cemetery near Greenwood, AR all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Gary and Dennis Biggers, Nelson Wakefield, Bruce Langham, Robert Bowlin, III, and Rick Dotson.
The body may be viewed Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 5pm.
