George Calvin Schriver, 86, of Fort Smith died Monday, June 4, 2012 in his home with his family. He was born in Paris, Arkansas on October 20, 1925 to George August and Mary Lucille Hixson Schriver. He graduated from Fort Smith High School, and was a U.S. Navy pilot in World War II. He was Commandant of the Civil Air Patrol in the 1950’s, flying search and rescue missions. He was the founder of the Flightmasters Model Airplane Club of Fort Smith. He collected and framed aviation lithographs which he donated to the Fort Smith Air Museum at the Municipal Airport. Mr. Schriver owned Schriver and Son Construction Company, founded in the early 1920’s by his father George August Schriver, and he continued the business as a designer and general contractor for three generations. He and his wife were interested in archaeology and traveled extensively. He was a member of the First Lutheran Church.
Mr. Schriver is survived by his wife Inez of the home; daughter, Lynn Schriver of Fort Smith; and son, Jimmy Calvin Schriver and wife Lynn Fulton Schriver of Cedarville, AR. He was preceded in death by one daughter Mary Ann Schriver.
The family will greet friends at Edwards Funeral Home on Wednesday evening from 5-7 PM.
Private burial will be at a later date in Roselawn Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Allen Stuckwisch. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
