Eugene Lee (Gene) Kuykendall Sr., 96, of Fort Smith, went to sleep in Jesus December 17, 2020 awaiting the Great Resurrection. Born in Fort Smith, Arkansas January 29, 1924 to the late Fred and Velma Kuykendall (Watts). He was a faithful and active member of the Seventh-day Adventist church until illness prevented him from attending. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his beloved wife and love of his life for over 73 years, Willene; his brothers Jimmy Kuykendall, Charles Kuykendall, and Billy Watts all of Texas.
He is survived by his son Lee and wife Martha of Fort Smith, AR; son Fred of Van Buren, AR; grandchildren Malia Kuykendall of Las Vegas, NV; Brandee Lighthall (Christian) of Bentonville, AR; Kyle Kuykendall (Stevi) of Springdale, AR; Andrea Vessels (Clay) of Murfreesboro, TN; Freddy Kuykendall (Kaitlyn) of Chattanooga, TN; 6 great grandchildren; and nieces Evelyn Skinner (Roy) of Texas; Carole Holliday of Pittsburgh, PA; and nephew Billy Waugh of Florida.
Gene served in the Pacific Theatre with the U.S. Marine Corp during World War II, and the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Besides his family, he loved his Lord, his country, the Razorbacks, and his many, many dogs over the years.
A funeral service was held at 1 pm, Friday, December 18, at the National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Arkansas with dear friend and pastor Burnham Rand officiating. Services were entrusted to Edwards Funeral Home.
The family would like to especially thank the entire staff of Quinton Manor in Quinton, OK for all their love, support, and extraordinary care. They would also like to thank the Fort Smith, Seventh-day Adventist Church for their outpouring of love over the years.
