Dorothy Burd, 97, of Lavaca, died April 19, 2015 in Fort Smith. She was born January 2, 1918 in Quinton, Oklahoma to Humboldt and Annie Clark Duke. She raised her family in Okmulgee where she was a member of First United Methodist Church. Dorothy was the last of fourteen Duke children. Dorothy loved her family, cooking, sewing, entertaining, fishing, Waterford Crystal, and babysitting her “adopted” children in Fort Smith.
She is survived by her husband of 74 years, Wayne Burd of the home; one daughter, Margaret “Chick” and husband Jim Branson of Gillette, WY; two sons, Larry Burd of Wichita, KS and Dr. Ray and wife Jan Burd of Lavaca; four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband David Johnson of Birmingham, AL., Casey Burd of Springdale, AR., Kelsey and wife Caroline Burd of Fayetteville, AR., and Dr. Lindsey Woods of Salt lake City, Utah; four great grandchildren, Katherine Rose Stewart, Issac Allen Houston, Ryan Elizabeth Johnson, and Maddie Kay Johnson. She was preceded in death by her daughter in law Ruthie Burd.
Graveside service will be Thursday, April 23, 2015 at 11:00 AM in the Okmulgee Cemetery in Okmulgee, OK under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
