Doris Mae Wehunt

Doris Mae Wehunt passed away quietly on Thursday, January 22nd 2015 at 12:11 am at the Tomball Nursing Home in Tomball Texas. Doris Mae Juneau was born on January 5, 1927 in Bottineau North Dakota. Doris was married to Bill Gene Wehunt of Fort Smith, Arkansas where they lived there for many years while raising three children. Doris is survived by her daughter, Carole of Haltom City, Texas, and her two sons, John and Larry, of Conroe, Texas and Glendale, Arizona, respectively. Doris Juneau was raised in rural North Dakota during the Great Depression, where she contracted polio at a very early age. She managed the disease as best she could. As a young adult, Doris graduated from St. Mary’s College, St. Paul, Minnesota. She adored working for Kimberly Clark in Minneapolis. And, she longed for adventure so she applied to the civil service and was soon relocated to Tripoli Libya, where she met her future husband Bill Wehunt serving in the United States Air Force. Bill and Doris met and fell in love on the shores of the Mediterranean, and were soon married in 1958 at the U.S. Air Force Base in Tripoli. Soon after, she and Bill were transferred to London England, where Carole Anne was born. Doris and Bill were later reassigned to the Barksdale Air Force base in Bossier City, Louisiana, where their first son, John Barry was born. The family finally settled in Fort Smith, Arkansas, where there second son, Larry Robert was born. Doris loved her husband and her family very much and she will be dearly missed. She was a great mom who loved to laugh. She had a passion for life and especially travel, current events and crossword puzzles. She loved animals and she was a devout Roman Catholic as a longtime parishioner of Christ the King Church. She was pleasant to most everyone she met, and some would say Doris was very tough. But those who knew her best would agree, but would also add that she was also very loving, fair and very kind. Doris was beloved by many and especially her children. She will be buried with Billy Wehunt in the Fort Smith National Military Cemetery, on Monday, January 26, 2015 at 11:00am. Services are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Doris Mae Wehunt is now in the hands of God and she will always be remembered and cherished as a loving mom and parent.
