Donald L. Neal, of Fort Smith went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, November 16, 2022. He was born to Clyde and Virgie Neal of Johnson, Arkansas, on November 14, 1930. He was one of two (2) children and survived by his sister Norma Williams of Johnson, AR. He was raised in Johnson, AR, and graduated from the University High School on the campus of the University of Arkansas. After his service in the military, where he received an honorable discharge with the rank of Master Sergeant, he attended the University of Arkansas and obtained a degree in accounting.
Don was predeceased by his parents and his wife, Lela, to whom he was married 62 years.
He is survived by his children, Barry Neal and wife Connye of Fort Smith, Pam Meimerstorf and husband Mickey of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Mike Neal and wife Linda of Fort Smith; five grandchildren, Bart Blasengame of Portland, Oregon, Ben Neal of Los Angeles, California, Erin Meimerstorf Coco of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Lindsey Meimerstorf Jones of The Woodlands, TX, and Sara Neal of Fayetteville, Arkansas and three Great Grandchildren Tucker Jones, Savannah Jones, and Madison Coco.
Don was an Elder with the West-Ark Church of Christ, and its predecessor congregation College Terrace. He was instrumental in merging the College Terrace and Windsor Drive Churches of Christ in 1981 to form West-Ark Church of Christ.
Don began his professional career with Arkansas-Best Freight System (ABF) as a staff accountant the fall of 1958 and retired as Senior VP of Finance of Arkansas Best Corporation in April 1997.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 PM, Monday, November 21, 2022, at the West-Ark Church of Christ, 900 N. Waldron Road, Fort Smith, AR. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until 1:00 PM., before the service, in the lobby at West-Ark. A private burial service shall follow at the U.S. National Cemetery under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Honorary Pallbearers will be former and current Elders of the West-Ark Church of Christ.
