David Allen Cleavenger, 59 of Fort Smith, passed away on August 26, 2016 after a brief illness. He was born in Fort Smith, Arkansas on March 17, 1957 to parents Jack R. Clevenger, Sr. and Elizabeth (Haskins) Cleavenger. He graduated from Southside High School in 1975 and was a member of Faith United Methodist Church.
David was an avid sports fan. He loved the Razorbacks and “his” Dallas Cowboys. David also loved his family and all the “get togethers.” He loved to cook; he was a chef for many local restaurants and at Butterfield Retirement Center before being forced to retire due to a stroke.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Elizabeth Cleavenger. He is survived by three brothers; Jack Jr. (Linda) of Barling; Gary (Sherry) of Greenwood, and Donald of Fort Smith; two sisters; Kimberly Snipes (Fred) of Van Buren and Debra Reynolds (Dale) of Rogers. He is also survived by six nephews; Clinton Snipes of Fort Smith, Scott Snipes of Van Buren, Chris Reynolds of Pea Ridge, Kevin Reynolds of Gravette, Joe Reynolds of Little Rock and Ashton Cleavenger of Altus, Oklahoma; 4 nieces; Sarah Reynolds of Fort Smith, Jordyn Cleavenger of Little Rock, Kylie Cleavenger of Fayetteville and Heather Zavala of Greenwood. He is also survived by four great nephews and six great nieces, many aunts and uncles and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church, 2901 Massard Road, on Monday, August 29, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. with Reverend Charles Armour officiating. There will be a private burial service of his ashes at a later date, cremation is under the direction of Fentress Mortuary in Fort Smith.
