Darryl Wayne “DW” Person, 76, of Fort Smith, passed from this life May 26, 2016 in Fort Smith. He was born October 28, 1939, in Hoyt, Oklahoma, to the late Woodrow and Lorene Hunsucker Person. DW owned and operated Person Auto Sales for 45 years, as well as Person Thoroughbred Farm. He was a Vietnam veteran with the United States Army and a member of Community Freewill Baptist Church. He was inducted into the Fort Smith Bowling Hall of Fame in 2001. He bowled the Southwest Regional Tour of the Senior All Star Bowling Association (SASBA).
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Earldene; his children, daughter, Melissa White and husband Kevin of Fort Smith; son, Darryl (Tad) Person, Jr. and wife Brenda of Fort Smith and daughter, Susan Miller of Addison, Texas; three sisters, Betty Colquitt of Fort Smith, Mary Leonard of Fort Smith, and Sandra Hixson and husband Bill of Stillwater, Oklahoma; two brothers, Woodrow D. Person and companion Gerrie of Fort Smith and Gary Don Person and wife Jan of Allen, Texas; three granddaughters, Courtney, Paige and Yvonne; one great granddaughter, Kourtlyn; six step grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be 10:00am Thursday, June 2, 2016 in Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith. The family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00pm Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Rick and Randy Russell, Billy and Ben Gibson, Kent Hixson and Ron Colquitt. Honorary pallbearers will be Rodney Colquitt, Bryan Hixson, Chris Person, Joe Moon, Richard Lincks and Richard Bandy.
