Craig McCulloh Smith, 85, of Fort Smith died January 28, 2015 in Fort Smith. He was born August 27, 1929 in Plainfield, New Jersey and raised in Niagara Falls, New York. He was a graduate of Ridley College, St. Catherine’s, Ontario, The University of Virginia, a member of the Chi Psi Fraternity, Pennsylvania Sons of the Revolution, Past President of the Arkansas Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and a 32 Degree Mason. He served in the U.S. Army 1952-1954. He was the Director of the Arkansas Industrial Commission from 195 9-19 63, and Administrative Assistant to Winthrop Rockefeller 1963-1973. His career with the U.S. Federal Government spanned 23 years. He was Regional Director of the Denver and Philadelphia offices of the Economic Development Administration, U.S. Department of Commerce, Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Department of Commerce, and acting Deputy Assistant Secretary for the Economic Development Administration in Washington D.C., and he was charter member of the Senior Executive Service. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Susie Fullerton; one daughter, Allison L. Smith of Fort Smith; one son, Craig McCulloh Smith, Jr. and wife Susan of Mason Neck, Virginia; two grandsons, Joseph B. and Michael Craig Harper of Bowling Green, Kentucky, and four great grandchildren. Funeral service will be Monday, February 2, 2015 at 12:00 noon in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Frank Lockwood, Charles F. Frueh, Charles Hubbard, Paul Sandahl, Joseph S. Irwin, James A. Teter, Fredrick Scheuble, and David Matlock.
