Connie was born in Pulaski, VA in 1947. She was the youngest of five children. Her family worked hard and loved and supported each other. They stayed close even though Connie would move away later in life. She always missed home and ached to return. During her teen years, she went to live with her oldest sister, Mary Ann, who was like a second mother to her. She remembered those years as some of her best from her childhood.
After high school Connie went to work for Firestone and met her husband, Bob, while working there. They fell in love and the rest is history, as they say. They went on to have three children – Bill, Michael, and Mary Ann. They built a wonderful life together. Through job changes, moves from Virginia to Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, and Arkansas they forged their own path along the way.
Connie’s pride and joy were her children. She poured love and laughter into her family as a stay-at-home mom. She volunteered at their schools, was at all their events, and was their biggest cheerleader. She was always joking, laughing, and playing. She was the BEST mom. Connie also loved her role as Granny and doted on and spoiled her grandkids like any good Granny should. They adored her as well!
After her kids were older, Connie went back to school to get her teaching degree. She taught second grade in Waldron for many years before retiring. She was passionate about teaching and making a difference in the lives of her students. Her coworkers there became like family to her, as well. She loved teaching in Waldron and being a part of that community.
To know Connie was to know laughter, love, and joy. She was a vibrant person that would rather be having fun than “act her age.” She was exceedingly kind and always looking for ways to help and positively impact others. We take comfort in knowing she was a Christian and was welcomed into the arms of the Lord Sunday, October 13th at 5:01 pm along with her mama, sisters, and brother.
Connie was the wind beneath our wings, and she will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
We love you, Mama! 1,000 years would not have been enough.
