Clara Dickson Jones passed away Saturday, January 14, 2017 in Fort Smith, Arkansas. She was born at Dayton, Arkansas December 12, 1928 to Ray B. and Loma Dickson. She graduated from Mansfield High School and Beauchamps Beauty College in 1947. She earned her Associate of Arts Degree from Fort Smith Junior College in 1960, her Bachelor of Science degree in 1962 and her Masters Degree in Secondary Education in 1963 from the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
While in graduate school, Clara taught in the Home Economics department at the University and at Fayetteville Senior High School. After graduation she taught Literature and English at Roland High School, where she started the first art department.
Clara was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Fortnightly Study Club, the Belle Point Quilt Guild, the Oklahoma English Teachers Association, and a charter member of the Fort Smith Embroiderers Guild where she served 3 terms as President.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Wanda Zane; her parents; an infant daughter, Elizabeth Ann; and her husband, Edwin Jones.
She is survived by her son, Arden Dickson Jones and his wife Kymberly; and three grandchildren: Garret, Eden and Darby Jones, all of Huntington.
Funeral Service will be 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 18, 2017 at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel with a visitation an hour prior to the service. Interment will be at Dawson Cemetery near Greenwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home in Fort Smith.
Pallbearers will be Tony Jones, Bob Bradford, Greg Bradford, Merle Gross, Lex Mickle and Marty Mahan. Honorary Pallbearers will be Garret Jones, Don and Joyce Smith, Eddie Smith and David Smith.
