Christopher David Simpkins was born on August 15th, 1969, to Clarence Ray Simpkins Jr. and Maxine Simpkins-Cross. Ever since his childhood, Chris was an avid and conscientious collector of comic books and action figures. His two brothers, Rusty and Jeff Simpkins, remember the frequent trips to comic book stores when Chris was younger—spending their own money to begin what would become one of the most beloved collections.
He raised his two children, Jordan and Skyler, with the same love and passion for all things supernatural and ethereal. His love for them outcompeted his love for his collection, letting them open up and play with some of his action figures even though it meant sacrificing its value. He attempted to mold his devoted and loving wife Yolanda Simpkins to that same passion, yet she still struggles to differentiate between the DC and Marvel Universes. Regardless, she accompanied him through the best and worst times of life, and he proudly claimed her as his wife. His kind mother-in-law, Mary Bolin, dedicated a room in her own home to his collection.
Chris was also a passionate cat and dog dad, survived by three dogs, Chief, Gracie, and Bella, and ten cats, Snowball and the Marvel-ous felines Domino, Pietro, Pyro, Polaris, Sabre, Shadowcat, Prowler, Loki, and Mystique.
Two and a half years ago, Chris was diagnosed with stage 4 pancreatic cancer which he fought with unimaginable bravery. He kept fighting through dozens of rounds of chemotherapy and clinical trials to see his children marry, hug his grandchildren, and, to a lesser extent, unbox his 3-foot statue of Galactus that will be delivered this coming fall. On June 1st, 2022, we lost the most caring father, adoring husband, loving brother, precious son, amicable friend, and fearless fighter. Earth has lost its superhero, but God has gained an angel.
Chris’ visitation will be Friday, June 10th, from 5-7 pm at Edward’s Funeral Home (201 N 12th St., Fort Smith, Arkansas). Service will be held at 10 am on Saturday, June 11th, at Edward’s Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, we ask for donations in Chris’ memory to the National Pancreas Foundation, an organization seeking to improve the livelihood of people diagnosed with pancreatic cancer.
