As a child, Caleb was active in football, basketball, and baseball, but found his passion in running. In grade school, he ran with the Fort Smith Track Club, coached by Gerry Matlock. Beginning in the 8th grade, he was invited to run cross country for the Southside Rebels. As a sophomore, Caleb and his track teammates made it their goal to win a state championship. During his senior year, coached by Steve Peoples, that goal was accomplished, winning the 2009 title. Shortly after graduation, Caleb qualified for the Nike Outdoor National Meet, where he won first place and set a national record for the mile run. Caleb accepted a cross country and track scholarship to UALR, where he later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree.
Caleb asked Jesus Christ into his heart at the age of eight and was baptized at Murry Spur Free Will Baptist. He will always be remembered for his selfless, generous, and passionate spirit. His family is assured by grace and faith, they will someday rejoice alongside Caleb in heaven.
He is survived by his parents, Carl and Paula Hanson; his sister, Olivia Hanson; his maternal grandmother, Pearlie Robertson; two aunts, Kathy Hanson and Debra Askins; as well as his cousins, Timothy, Raymond, Michelle, Joseph, Larissa and Matthew.
