Bobby Wayne “Bob” Doss passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 8, 2017, having lived with dementia and Alzheimer’s for the last several years. He was born on April 21, 1945, in Fort Smith to Geraldine David Doss and Will Rob Doss. Bob was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Agnes “Aggie” Doss, of 43 years. He is survived by one son, Philip Doss and his wife Chandler of Fort Smith; one daughter, Carey Doss Thompson of Fort Smith; one sister, Linda Doss Koch and her husband Ray of Fort Smith. Bob had six grandchildren that he adored – Morgan McKinney of Little Rock, Jake Polinskey of Springfield, Missouri, Carson Doss, Trey Thompson, Anna Thompson and Sara Thompson of Fort Smith. In addition, Bob is survived by a niece, Kelly Wingfield; and two nephews, Josh Koch and Tim Koch.
Bob graduated from Fort Smith High School in 1963, married Aggie in 1965, joined the U.S. Army 978th Postal Unit in 1966, had his first child in 1968 and his second child in 1969. Coming from humble beginnings, Bob knew and appreciated the importance of hard work and began a career in banking in the early 1970’s. After more than 20 years at City National Bank, Bob was ultimately named CEO/President of First Financial Bancshares of Oklahoma where he worked until his retirement in September of 2007.
Bob was a man of faith and joined the Catholic church prior to his marriage in 1965. Since then, he has contributed countless hours to a variety of church and school initiatives that included youth trips, finance councils and volunteer events. In addition, Bob served on multiple community and church boards, always seeking to serve others and do his part to support them. Bob’s children and grandchildren all attended Catholic schools in Fort Smith and Bob continued to support these schools before and after retirement.
Bob was loved deeply by his wife, children, sister, grandchildren, other family members and close friends. He was the epitome of the American dream where faith, hard work, determination and a commitment to family and community rewarded him in his relationships, friendships and career. Bob enjoyed the golf course, snow skiing, the beach, camping, and any other activity that involved his family. We are happy that he is reunited with his beloved wife in the presence of our eternal Father.
The family wishes to express our heartfelt gratitude to the administration, nursing staff and caretakers at Memory Lane in Van Buren where Bob resided for the two years prior to his passing.
