Betty Stewart Thompson, 89, of Fort Smith, passed away Sunday, May 15, 2016 in Springdale, Arkansas. She was retired from Arkansas Best Freight as a Revenue Accountant; she was a member of Grand Avenue Baptist Church for 66 years, the American Cancer Society, the Girls Shelter Board, the Credit Women’s Breakfast Club, and the Community Services Clearinghouse Guild. Betty served on the Fort Smith School PTA as a dedicated volunteer throughout her daughter’s school years, and she did the same for the PTA of her granddaughters.
Betty is survived by one daughter, Dana and her husband David Craig of Fort Smith; and two granddaughters, Lauren Craig of Fayetteville and Erin Craig of Fort Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Edward Thompson.
Memorial service will be Thursday, May 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Grand Avenue Baptist Church. Private burial will be prior to the Memorial in the U.S. National Cemetery all under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Betty will be in state for viewing on Tuesday and Wednesday from 8-5 at Edwards Funeral Home 201 North 12th Fort Smith, AR.
The family will receive friends following the Memorial Service at Grand Avenue Baptist Church.
