Betty “Nan” Stutts passed peacefully at the age of 91.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester “Poppy” Stutts, parents Florence and Guy McAlister, and 5 sisters.
Betty is survived by her son, Louis Stutts (Anna) of Fort Smith and her daughter, Ellen Sullivan (Jack) of North Little Rock; her 5 grandchildren, Jamie Himes (Bryant), Marshall Stutts, Sarah Stutts-Comeaux (Gil), Jenny Wilkinson, Michael Stutts; and 2 great-granddaughters, Natalie Turner and Ella Comeaux. She is also survived by one brother, George McAlister (Martha) of Fort Smith, many nieces, nephews, and loved ones.
Betty was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she served in several roles throughout her life. She was a dedicated volunteer and lifelong supporter of Project Compassion, an expert Bingo caller, and a meticulous administrator of the Fort Smith/Van Buren Plumbing Apprenticeship School. Chester and Betty were integral in starting the plumbing apprenticeship school. After Chester’s retirement and death, Betty continued her dedication to apprentice plumbers by serving as the school’s administrator for 42 years.
A memorial service will be held Friday, December 22nd at 2:00pm at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Project Compassion or The Golden Rule Clothes Closet, both of Fort Smith.
