The family of Howard Thomas Raley and Anna Straub Raley welcomed their daughter, Marcella Amalia, into their family July 10, 1924, in Paragould, AR. Upon being received at St. Scholastica Convent June 24, 1948, she took the name Sister Mary Anne Michele Raley. Sister Anne Michele taught school for 16 years, then moved into secretarial work at St. Scholastica Convent, Fort Smith, Arkansas; Friendship House and Presentation Parish in Chicago, Illinois; ACORN office, Little Rock; Donnelly College, Kansas City, Kansas; Cooper Clinic office, Fort Smith; Heifer, Inc., Little Rock; and St. Joseph’s Home, North Little Rock. For the past 20 years Sister Anne Michele has resided at St. Scholastica and at Chapel Ridge Health and Rehab.
Sister Anne Michele is survived by three brothers: James "John" Jefferson, Paragould, AR; Joseph Ronald, Tularosa, NM; and Howard Thomas, Atlanta, GA.
Preceding her in death are her parents; four sisters: Pauline Raley, Anna Loretta Raley, Frances Raley- Hayden, and Virginia Raley-Ephrussi. Pallbearers will be her nieces and nephews, St. Scholastica Academy alumnae, and her infirmary caretakers.
Vespers for the Dead will be Sunday, March 12, 2017, at 7:30 p.m. in the Monastery Chapel. The funeral Mass will be Monday, March 13, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Les Farley as presider. Burial will be in the Monastery cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to St. Scholastica Continuing Care Fund, P O Box 3489, Fort Smith, AR 72913.
