Wayne was born January 30, 1946 to Bill & Irene Heyland of Turner Valley, AB. He grew up in Turner Valley before moving to Redwater, AB. in 1962 where he completed his high school. After graduation, Wayne joined the Royal Bank and with his first transfer to Spirit River, he met and married Gail Babuik, on May 4, 1968 in Rycroft, AB. After numerous transfers and frequently relocating with a young family, Wayne settled in Spirit River and operated the Sears store for several years. He then worked for the municipal government and later resumed his banking career with Alberta Treasury Branches. Many moves from northern Alberta to southern Alberta and back again created great friendships and fond memories in some very special communities. Wayne retired July 2004 to Ft. Saskatchewan, AB.
Wayne was a loving, kind, gentle, generous man who always looked for the good qualities in others. He was a caregiver, volunteer, and advocate for many charities. He had a great sense of humor, was an avid reader and sports fan. Wayne enjoyed golfing, camping, hunting and the beauty of the outdoors. He loved to travel and was very fortunate to plan so many trips with family. He was grateful and appreciative for the many special friendships and most of all, being involved in his grandchildren's lives. What an honor and privilege to have the time and memories with them. His advice to them would be to strive for your goals and dreams and be the best you can be!
He will be greatly missed by his wife Gail, son Craig (Elizabeth) Heyland, daughter Kim (Tim) Holopainen and grandchildren, Nicholas, Elliot and Bodhi, brother Bill (Dianne), sister in laws, Elizabeth Bohill, Elaine (Percy) Stefura, Lois (Steve) Bodnar, brother -in-law Mick Donovan, and many nieces and nephews. Wayne was predeceased by his parents, Bill & Irene Heyland, twin-sister Lynne (Jack) Lundberg, brother, Boyd, in laws, Nora & Alex Babuik, brother-in-law Rick Babuik, and a very special sister-in-law Donna Donovan.

A limb has fallen from the family tree that says: Grieve not for me REMEMBER the best times, the laughter, the song, the good life I've lived while I was strong.
