It is with broken hearts that the family of LeRoy Shackleton announce his passing on November 17, 2022. LeRoy leaves behind to cherish his memory, daughter Jackie (Leonard) Morin, sons Wayne (Sandy) Shackleton, Darren (Kim) Shackleton, as well as numerous loving family and many dear friends.
LeRoy lost the love of his life, June, on September 30, 2021. Together they spent many years with their children, grandchildren and dear friends camping, boating and fishing at the lake. He was still waterskiing late into his 70’s. LeRoy was an avid hunter and enjoyed those seasonal trips with his buddies. He was a competitive and accomplished curler that earned him many trophies along the way. LeRoy and June spent 40+ years as snowbirds in Phoenix, Arizona where they played golf and enjoyed horse racing. Horse racing was both their passions and LeRoy spent most days down at the barns helping with the horses. They both loved to entertain, June in the kitchen and LeRoy setting the table and being her sous chef. LeRoy and June owned and operated Shackleton Transport. Throughout those years they formed lifelong friendships. Driving truck was truly one of LeRoy’s passions. LeRoy had the biggest heart and unconditional love for those nearest and dearest to him. His loved ones will treasure all the beautiful memories they created together that will forever live in their hearts. LeRoy is now at peace in the loving arms of his one true love, June. As per LeRoy’s wishes, there will be no funeral. The family will place LeRoy’s ashes alongside June’s ashes in a niche at the Fort Saskatchewan Cemetery.
LeRoy’s children and grandchildren would like to send their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses and hospital staff at the Grey Nuns Hospital. We are forever grateful for the respect, kindness, dignity and compassion they showed during his short stay there. If family and friends desire, memorial donations may be made in LeRoy’s memory to the Cross Cancer Institute, 11560 University Avenue NW, Edmonton, AB, T6G1Z2
