Katherine was a shining light in the lives of everyone she encountered. Her boundless love, kindness, and devotion as a Mother, Friend, Sister, Daughter, and Aunt touched the hearts of all who knew her. Her passing on October 8th, 2023 at 44 years old leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory and the love she shared will forever be a source of comfort to those she leaves behind.
Katherine leaves behind a loving family, including her children, Taylor Markin, Brody Markin, and Joelle Markin, who were the lights of her life. She is survived by her mother, Kathy Pietersma, and stepfather, Dwayne Laschuk, and is predeceased by her father, Walter Pietersma. She also leaves behind her cherished siblings: Hank Pietersma and wife Pam, Gabrielle Pietersma, and Walter Pietersma and wife Ailish.
Katherine's love extended to her nieces and nephews: Logan Busch, Mason Pietersma, Roman Pietersma, Sydney Busch, Georgia Busch, Avery Pietersma, and Evelyn Pietersma. Her love for family was unwavering, and she treasured each moment spent with them.
Katherine had an incredible love for dogs, animals, and nature. The great outdoors held a special place in her heart, and she found solace in activities such as camping and fishing. Her love for the natural world was infectious, and she shared many cherished moments in the company of family and friends, creating lasting memories filled with laughter and joy.
As a social worker, Katherine dedicated her career to helping and supporting people in our community. Her work was a testament to her unending kindness, and she made it her mission to improve the lives of those she served. Her legacy of compassion and selflessness will be remembered for generations to come.
Katherine was a human being who loved without bounds or conditions. Her love for others was a force of nature, and her presence brought comfort and hope to those in need. Her memory will continue to inspire acts of kindness and love in all of us.
The celebration of Katherine's remarkable life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, October 27, 2023 at Our Lady of the Angels Roman Catholic Parish, 10004 101 St, Fort Saskatchewan, AB. All family and friends are invited to come together to honor and remember the beautiful soul that she was.
Though Katherine's physical presence is no longer with us, her legacy of love, kindness, and compassion will live on through the lives she touched. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all to be better, just as she was throughout her life.
