Joanne den Heijer, of Fort Saskatchewan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at the age of 90. She is survived by her loving family; daughters Elisabeth Usher, Fran (Bob) MacCollum, Margi (George) Nickel; grandchildren: Lisa (Ervin) Gatzke, David (Andrea) Usher, Gregory (Karen) MacCollum, Rob (Heather) MacCollum, Trevor (Tania) Nickel and Kirsten (Mike) Nickel; great-grandchildren: Maria, Paige, Ethan, Nate, Fraser, Kain, Caydon, Kellen, Cadel and Ksyrium; her brother and sister-in-law Rien and Rita Denheyer; sister-in-law Annie Korving and nieces and nephews both here and in the Netherlands. Joanne was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Arie den Heijer, her parents, siblings and her son-in-law, Lloyd Usher.
Joanne was an extraordinary person. She was a loving and caring mother and wife. Throughout her lifetime, she was involved in many community activities as both a leader and volunteer. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her well.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at First Memorial Riverview Chapel in Fort Saskatchewan with Pastor Brent Dunbar officiating.
