Sam was predeceased by his mother Daphne McKay; grandparents Ernest Kovach and Doreen Kovach; uncle Lloyd McKay and cousin Scarlett McKay.
He is survived by his father Robert Kovach; sisters: Larissa McKay (Riley), Maia McKay, Savannah McKay (Curtis) and Caitlin Kovach; brother Nicholas McKay; grandparents Lloyd McKay Sr and Debbie McKay (Raymond); uncles Greg Kovach (Armelle) and Wayne Kovach; aunts: Debbie Schachtel (Darren), Annette Ward (Mike) and Sylvia McKay; cousins: Kyra, Kyle, Alyssa, Nikki, Brandynne, Allison, Cody, Danica, Cadyn, Lance Jr, Richard, Noland, Tyler and Zoe; numerous nieces and nephews and his special niece Chandi.
The wake was held in Peepeekisis Pesakastew School, Peepeekisis First Nation on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 4:00 p.m. The funeral service was held in the Peepeekisis Pesakastew School on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. with Joy and Desmond Desnomie and Sister Bernadette Feist, OSU officiating. Interment followed in the Pepeekisis R.C. Parish Cemetery.
