It is with much love and deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, grandmother and great grandmother Elizabeth (Betty) Benko in her 96th year. Betty was born on January 19, 1927 on a farm near Hubbard, Saskatchewan and passed away on Friday, February 3, 2023 with her family at her side, in the Palliative Care Unit, Pasqua Hospital, Regina, Saskatchewan.
Betty was predeceased by her loving husband Eugene (Bill) Benko; her parents Carl and Frances (Grzebinski) Batycki; her sisters Helen Dean and Bernice Hastie; sisters-in-law: Anne, Betty, Janet and Wendy and brothers: Frank, Mike, Leo, Adam, Julian, Ted and Florian.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Marlene (Gordon) Bausmer, their children Tiffany (Andrew) Watt and Everly; Lacey Bausmer (Mitchell Marriott) and Ava, Jemma and Jace; Jordan (Hailey) Bausmer and Ezra; Eugene and his children Evan; Andrew (Katie) and Hannah; Katrina (Nathan) Rondot and Maddison and Isabella; brothers Peter (Pennie) Batycki and Victor Batycki; sisters-in-law: Kay Batycki, Terri Batycki and Kathy Batycki and numerous nieces and nephews.
In 1933 Betty’s family moved from Hubbard to a homestead north of Danbury, Saskatchewan where she spent her school years. She then moved to Regina and met Bill whom she married in 1950 and they lived on the family farm at Tregarva, where Marlene was born. In 1952 they moved to a farm at Estlin and Eugene was born in 1955. In 1963 they moved to Regina, where Betty worked at Kressges and at the General Hospital as a seamstress. Bill continued to look for a farm and in 1965 they moved to Lipton. Betty worked at the Fort Sanatorium as a nurse’s aide. She also did seamstress work. Betty loved flowers and her yard was always in full bloom. She loved curling and bowling. Having six grandchildren in six years kept her busy. Due to Bill’s ill health, in 2006 they moved to Woodbine Manor in Fort Qu’Appelle. He passed away in 2007 and Betty continued to live at the Manor until her passing.
The funeral mass was concelebrated in Our Lady of Sorrows R.C. Church, Fort Qu’Appelle on Saturday, February 18, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. by Rev. Adelberto (Bert) Lillo and Rev. Glenn Zimmer, OMI. Private interment of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
We wish to thank Chaplain Jerry Fitzgerald, Rev. Rick Krofchek, the staff at the Regina CSU 3A, Ward 3F, Dr. Greg Bauman and the Pasqua Hospital Palliative Care Unit for their care and concern.
