Nancy Beatty of Fort Pierce, Florida passed away on May 18, 2017, at the age of 93, at the VNA Hospice in Vero Beach, Florida after an illness. Mrs. Beatty was born in Wytheville, Virginia and grew up in Glade Spring, Virginia. She was the middle child of three children. Her father, Frank M. Crockett was a prominent educator and high school principal in Southwestern Virginia. Her mother Elizabeth Neal Wynn was a Sunday school and piano teacher. Mrs. Beatty attended James Madison College and after graduation in 1942 worked in Washington, D.C. for a Virginia Congressman. It was there that she met a dashing young Marine Lieutenant on a blind date. After a brief courtship they married on February 13, 1945. The Beatty family settled in Scarsdale, NY where Mrs. Beatty enrolled in TV school to become a TV spokesperson for a major coffee company. Mrs. Beatty's career was interrupted in 1948 by the birth of her first son, William, Jr.. In 1954 their second son, Robert was born. Shortly thereafter the family moved to Pompano Beach, FL. and later to Boca Raton and to Fort Pierce. In Florida she became a real estate broker and worked in Broward County. She also worked in the family businesses in Scarsdale, New York and Pompano Beach. She maintained her brokers license until her death. Mrs. Beatty was a talented musician and learned to play the violin, piano and guitar at an early age. Mrs. Beatty was a church member and was involved in church activities at the First Methodist Church of Pompano Beach. She enjoyed reading and politics and in the 1970's she and Husband Bill traveled throughout the world. Mrs. Beatty was also a devoted family historian. She was deeply interested in her family origins in Ireland and Wales. Her family emigrated to North America in the late 1600's and were early pioneers in southwest Virginia. Her last trip before her illness was to Virginia to the 300th anniversary celebration of the settlement of the Crockett's in Virginia in the area that is known as “Crockett's Cove” in Wythe County.
Mrs. Beatty was preceded by the death of her parents, Frank M. and Elizabeth Neal Wynn Crockett; Her husband, William K. Beatty; her brother, Dr. Frank M. Crockett, Jr. and sister, Jane Crockett Dailey.
Mrs. Beatty is survived by her Sons, Robert M. Beatty of Fort Pierce; William K. Beatty, Jr. and daughter-in-law Kathleen Shea of Vero Beach, as well as eight grandchildren and six great grand children. She is also survived by niece Lisa Crockett and husband James Cooke of Newton, MA and their two daughters and niece Mary Pat Warddell and her two sons of Columbia, MD.
