Born in London, England, he came to this country when he was 4 years old. He lived in Winnetka, IL. After high school he attended Kenyon College. At outbreak of World War II, before Pearl Harbor, he volunteered for the British Army and was part of allied invasion of Europe. He served throughout the European Campaign as a 1st LT and was attached to U.S. forces in the Battle of the Bulge.
After one year of occupation in Germany, he returned to England and married his wife of 57 years, Mary Beardsell in Yorkshire. They returned to the United States and bought a home in Forest Hills Gardens. He spent a lifetime in promotional sales and color design. He held a managerial position in wood veneers and Micarta laminates with Westinghouse. He was very active in color marketing groups and was an international authority on color. He served on their board. Eventually he received their first service award and honorary lifetime membership.
His lifetime hobby was tennis. For 48 years, he was an active member of the well known West Side Tennis Club in Forest Hills and later became a member of Twin Oaks Tennis Club in Vero Beach, FL.
He is survived by his daughter, Victoria and son-in-law, Michael Roehling, of Broad Channel, NY and grandson, Jesse Roehling, who is currently studying at New York Law School.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, September 9, 2011 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Fort Pierce, FL.
Arrangements are under the care of Aycock Funeral Home, Fort Pierce, FL.
