LYNNE ANNE CALLAGY
October 3, 1945 – February 9, 2024
Lynne Anne Schweitzer Callagy, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, an exquisite gourmet cook who gave many a party, an avid tennis player and sailor, and a practicing Roman Catholic, died February 9, 2024, of complications from a stroke at HCA Florida Lawnwood Hospital in Fort Pierce. She was 78.
She was a quiet, loving anchor to her large family, known for her listening ear and her ability to keep secrets. She lived and let live, gave a lot, and asked for little in return. As Robert Dennis (RD), her husband of nearly 60 years, said, “you were my rock, the wind in my sails, a rolling stream, a summer breeze, flowering trees, a field full of poppies, and oh so much more.”
Lynne was born October 3, 1945, in Flushing, NY, and lived in Eugene, OR, Lynbrook, NY, Redding Ridge, CT, Cape Cod, MA, Dallas, TX, Orlando, FL, and, most recently, South Hutchinson Island, FL.
She attended Saint Andrew Avellino Academy and Church, where she met RD and they became childhood sweethearts. She later went to Delehanty High School and Fairfield University, where she earned an associate degree. She worked at NYC law firms and later Law Offices of R Dennis Callagy. She became the office manager/treasurer of Cal Yachting Inc. and V.P. of Outside Counsel Group, Inc.
But work outside the home was never the center of Lynne’s life. She was honored to have four children, eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Besides her busy family duties, Lynne attended numerous culinary classes and was involved in many volunteer activities: secretary of the League of Woman Voters, member of Town Board of Education, assistant athletic coach at Boy’s Club, cook and service volunteer for Ronald McDonald House Food Services with her son Scott, and at St. Patrick’s Church a Eucharistic Minister, teacher of CCD, and teacher of Teenage Youth Ministry.
Lynne and RD sailed the world on a 109-foot wooden sailing yacht, the Vadura, from Cape Cod to Australia and New Zealand, Fiji, French Polynesia, the Caribbean, Bermuda, Italy, and beyond.
They were each other’s best friends for nearly sixty years. Before RD’s death in April, he said, “Thank you, Lynne, for being such a Great Unselfish wife, mother, grandmother and friend and bringing light, structure and joy to my life from beginning to end.”
Lynne lived a full life, sharing laughs and hugs, savoring her family and delicious meals, leaving many happy memories for all who loved her.
She is survived by her son Dennis Michael (Susan Liziewski Callagy) Callagy of Cocoa, FL; daughter Michelle Lynne (Michael Mollica) Callagy Mollica of Pembroke, MA; daughter, Kristen Anne (Tom Caron) Callagy of Bangor, ME; grandchildren Devon, Brianna, Kyle, Kayla, Kathleen, Brooke, Abigail, and Meaghan; and one great-grandchild,
Peter Henry Joyce III. She was preceded in death by her son Scott Christopher (Monique Gross Callagy) Callagy of Dallas, TX.
A Celebration of Life for RD and Lynne is planned for July 20, 2024, in Bourne, Cape Cod.
